Currents and counter-currents of Asia

Richer by Asia was the title of a 1947 book by Edmond Taylor, written on the eve of Indian independence, calling attention to the potential of economic, political and cultural development in Asia. Now that potential has matured so that it is visible by all. Asia plays a crucial role for global stability in both economic and strategic terms. Yet, there are also counter-currents of intractable conflicts, border disputes, and ideological and populist mobilization.

As Edmond Taylor wrote at the time "We must have sound intelligence. This means that it is our duty to keep ourselves informed of what is happening in the world, and to reflect upon the information available to us with a sober, objective, even skeptical mind." We hope to provide a holistic and inter-disciplinary approach to the study of the currents and counter-currents of Asia.
